Algal Blooms in the Area

Every year, algal blooms appear in the Caloosahatchee during the dry season because freshwater flows from Lake Okeechobee have been cut off.

The Health Alert for river water was downgraded to a caution on 7/26/11, as recent rains brought runoff from the water shed to the river.
