Public scoping meeting on the new Everglades Headwaters National Wildlife Refuge
This week the US Fish& Wildlife Service will hold two public meetings on the proposed Everglades Headwaters National Wildlife Refuge and Conservation Area. These public scoping meetings are being held to provide details about the proposed project and allow the public to ask questions, make suggestions and contribute ideas.
The proposed refuge is a tremendous opportunity to advance greater everglades restoration north of Lake Okeechobee which has direct and significant impacts on the lake as well as our Caloosahatchee and estuary. We encourage folks to become informed and engaged in the planning process. This can be done by attending the meetings this week or by visiting the website below to sign up for notices and updates.
Wednesday Feb 9 the meeting is at Okeechobee High School, 2800 Hwy. 441 N, Okeechobee, FL 34972, from 6- 9 pm
Thursday Feb 10 the meeting is at Vero Beach High School, Main Campus Cafeteria, 1707 16th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960 from 6-9 pm.
Written comments on the proposal will be accepted through Feb. 28, 2011. Please address them to Cheri Ehrhardt, Natural Resource Planner, Everglades Headwaters Proposal, PO Box 2683, Titusville, FL 32781-2683.
