Our barrier islands are a fragile environment. What you enjoy here today is the result of the concerted efforts of the many who preceded us. They have made a difference. We encourage you to join us in the continuing stewardship of our sanctuary islands.

Your member benefits include a complimentary consultation with a Landscaping for Wildlife staff member for Family Memberships, a 10% discount on purchases in the Nature Shop and at the Native Plant Nursery, invitations to members’ special events, free admission to the Nature Center and selected programs, and a subscription to the Foundation’s informative member newsletter.

With your support, SCCF is able to continue our work in the following areas:

  • Through the support of our community we have acquired over 1,800 acres of wildlife habitat
  • The work of our Marine Laboratory and the SCCF RECON network of real-time water quality monitoring sensors are contributing to our understanding of water quality issues affecting the islands and surrounding waters.
  • The Foundation involves hundreds of volunteers with sea turtle, nesting shorebird, plant propagation and other nature programs.
  • SCCF is an active advocate in policy issues involving both land use and water quality, at the local, state and federal levels
  • People are encouraged to landscape for wildlife through our native plant nursery
  • Over 65,000 people a year are introduced to barrier island ecology through activities, events and programs.
  • Our Wildlife Habitat Management staff is conducting research into freshwater ecology and wildlife, nesting shorebirds and native plant communities.

A Special Member Benefit

Landscaping for Wildlife Housecalls
The Native Plant Nursery also offers "housecalls" on Sanibel and Captiva Islands as a benefit of a family membership to the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation. During a housecall, a nursery staff person visits your yard and may give advice on recommendations for appropriate native plantings, environmentally friendly landscaping practices, or identify any unknown plant species . The visit is tailored to the needs of the homeowner, and nursery staff are willing to give environmentally friendly advice on any aspect of gardening. Family membership entitles you to one lifetime housecall. If you've already received a housecall for your property, you may arrange for an additional visit with a $50 donation to the SCCF. To schedule an appointment, please call the nursery at 239-472-1932.
