Natural Resource Policy

The Natural Resource Policy Department helps fulfill the Foundation's advocacy role for natural resource protection, bringing island concerns into a broader arena and also bringing a sound scientific grounding to the policy discussion.

SCCF’s Natural Resource Policy Director works on policy development and provision of outreach for the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation related to the protection and restoration of important habitats, land management issues, fish and wildlife conservation and water resources.

Natural Resource Policy activities include:

Coordination of the Foundation's current efforts regarding water management and natural resource protection in the Caloosahatchee watershed and associated estuaries.
Collaboration with other non-profit organizations and government agency interaction to gather and share information regarding natural resource protection in our region.
Plans for effective Foundation influence in local, regional and State-wide environmental issues impacting the Foundation's mission.
Monitoring of proposed changes to codes, ordinances, rules, comprehensive land use plans and other legislation which may have a negative impact on natural resources and/or wildlife habitat at City, County, State, and Federal levels, including, development intensity, zoning, water management, pollution control and habitat degradation.
Development of strategies to best address particular issues (whether through enforcement, legislation, and/or by working with the groups involved).
