Other Ways to Help
Help protect our sanctuary islands.
The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of coastal habitats and aquatic resources on Sanibel and Captiva and in the surrounding watershed.
Thanks to the generosity of our members and the islands community,
SCCF was able to purchase the 28-acre Bailey Homestead this past June,
preserving a 28-acre Northern Sanibel
Wildlife Corridor. This year's Annual Fund Drive goal is $650,000, after looking at the grant monies our
staff has secured, and matching funds for those grants generously given
by a small group of major donors. We count on this support
— combined with grants and other income — to balance our budget. Please click here to learn more.
Through the support of our community we have acquired over 1,800 acres of wildlife habitat. Our Marine Laboratory studies the estuarine environment and the impact of water quality issues; our just-launched RECON network of 6 fixed-location sensors (ranging from Moore Haven, near Lake Okeechobee, to Redfish Pass) provides real-time monitoring of key water quality parameters, accessible on our web site.
Research into Sanibel wildlife is being conducted on our Preserves. Over 65,000 people a year are introduced to barrier island ecology through activities, events and programs. The Foundation involves hundreds of volunteers with sea turtle, nesting shorebird, plant propagation and other nature programs. People are encouraged to landscape for wildlife through our native plant nursery.
We could not do this without the strong support of our community. We encourage you to volunteer, to become a member, to support our Legacy Funds and to support our Annual Fund Drive.
